This is an educational program put on for those individuals that do not
qualify for the services of Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program but cannot afford to retain counsel of their own. The clinic gives these individuals some basic information on how to represent themselves in a divorce.
The curriculum tells them where to go to find certain forms and gives them a list of attorneys that are members of the Family Law Section of the Houston Bar Association. The clinic is offered on the third Saturday of each month for 2 to 3 hours. The Board realizes that there are persons in our community that are in need of legal services but cannot afford them and cannot qualify for public assistance. This clinic is designed to fill that void. This is an opportunity to give something back to the community that we serve. If we do not do this now voluntarily there is little doubt that regulations will be put in place requiring us to provide this service in a manner over which we
will have no control. For this reason the involvement of Family Lawyers is imperative.

The clinic is still being offered at this time on a monthly basis. The Board provides training for any attorneys who are willing to lend a small amount of their time to this venture.
